Challenge

Individual contributors don't necessarily have the skillset to manage, so my team built onboarding for them. Because they had to be managers while attending this onboarding program, we leveraged a flipped classroom model and designed the resources to save them time on future work and session that workshopped real assets.

Solution

This build covered effective weekly meetings and included a template deck learners could use and company links to various resources.

The vILT for this learning included breakout rooms exploring and discussing company resources, workshopping and revising their upcoming deck for communication, and discussing accountability mechanisms. One of the trainers in this program shared that "it
was easy to facilitate because the learners did all the work. And good job on that design and making us look good!"

Stakeholder Feedback

  • The timing of this was perfect. I have been evolving my team meeting content, and this gave a lot of new ideas and a framework to be more effective.
  • Love the resources! Great collaboration from the group and learned a lot about what others are doing!
  • Great use of time to look at multiple ways/approaches with Team meetings.
  • Loved all the resources available to help make team meetings more effective and interactive. Break out session was very insightful as well the resources shared. I can save a lot of time moving forward preparing for the team meetings
  • What I found most useful was the various templates for our team meeting decks. Love that we do not need to create everything on our own!
  • Great topic, great content. It is very helpful to get best in class direction for team meeting structure!

Herbalism 101 - eLearning Lesson

Challenge

Due to Covid19, my herbalist teacher has been  unable to take on students since her instruction is entirely in-person. Some herbalists cannot lead classes because they are increasingly taking care of the sick in their community. The herbalists who are teaching are sending pamphlets and packaged herbs to their students. However, many learners are struggling to learn the content through this means and dropping out.

Solution

I created this eLearning lesson to teach herbalism students two basic concepts. When a student enrolls in this coursework, they could start learning the material immediately while waiting for a package of herbs to come in the mail. Once received, students could experience the tastes and energetics of the plants themselves.

Results

Ultimately, success for this lesson would be measured in a student-herbalist's ability to match their constitution and needs with the energetics and tastes of various herbs. Success in the online course as a whole could be measured with retained enrollment numbers.

Trauma-informed Management

Challenge

The collective experience of Covid19 has highlighted how little we know about trauma. Companies are recognizing a need to build and nurture a trauma-informed culture. A workplace that is not trauma-informed suffers. Employees navigating trauma without support may experience
  • Increased absenteeism
  • Health problems
  • Impaired judgement
  • Mood swings
  • Low motivation
  • Poor work quality
  • Greater staff friction
All this can affect the workplace in higher turnover rates, increased training costs, poor client outcomes, stressed work culture, and loss of productivity. It’s in a company’s best interest to cultivate trauma-informed leaders and culture.

Solution

I created this eLearning storytelling, gamification training to teach managers how to navigate trauma among their employees. Talk to David, choose your responses, and find out how trauma-informed you are!

Results

A pre and post training survey of company culture would make for good result measurements here, though I also believe you could compare the rates of absenteeism, turnover, and workplace disagreements to measure the effect of this training.
